IMPROVING LIVES, INSPIRING CHANGE

Students visit the Accu Distribution centre!

The visit to Accu Distribution Centre in Huddersfield provided students from Brian Jackson College, Heckmondwike with a valuable opportunity to develop their spiritual and moral understanding by exploring the values, goals, and culture of a successful engineering and manufacturing business.

Students learned about the importance of teamwork, innovation, respect, and responsibility within the workplace, as well as the range of careers available within the company. Hearing about the benefits that Accu provides for its employees helped students appreciate the importance of staff wellbeing and positive workplace environments. Learning about Accu’s recent acquisition of the Accu Stadium also demonstrated the company’s commitment to supporting the local community and investing in the wider region.

The trip also made a significant contribution to students’ social and cultural development. Students were able to interact with employees from a variety of professional backgrounds and gain an understanding of modern STEM careers.

They were particularly engaged by Accu’s recreational Robot Wars team, which includes veterans of the famous television programme, showcasing how engineering skills can be applied creatively and recreationally. The opportunity to participate in an RC robot football competition encouraged teamwork, communication, resilience and healthy competition, as students played both against their classmates and peers from another school.

These experiences helped build confidence, develop social skills, and broaden students’ cultural awareness of the opportunities available within the engineering and technology sectors, while highlighting the work Accu does to inspire young people to pursue future careers in STEM.
